We offer a quality after-school second language program in Spanish that serves children from the Champaign-Urbana community. We also offer summer camps.

The program promotes early second language acquisition by children who want to learn Spanish and do not come from Spanish-speaking families, as well as language maintenance for children of Spanish-speaking families. Children will have the opportunity to learn the language and gain knowledge of the rich cultural traditions of the Spanish-speaking world.

The director of the Academy is Professor Silvina Montrul, director of the Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE) program, current head of the Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, Professor in the Department of Linguistics, and director of the Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism Lab at the University of Illinois.
